New Balance 5th Avenue Mile Draws 8,600 Runners

The 45th New Balance 5th Avenue Mile took place on September 13, 2026, with more than 8,600 runners competing on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue. The elite field included 15 Olympians and 18 world or Olympic medalists representing 12 countries, marking the event’s largest international presence to date.

The race also featured the return of the Broadway Mile for its second year, with over 100 theater professionals participating to raise funds for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Specialty races included the Back to School Mile for runners aged 2–18, as well as heats for NYPD, FDNY, and media participants.

NYRR Chief Event Production Officer and Race Director Ted Metellus discussed preparations with Eyewitness News’ Nina Pineda ahead of the event. Meanwhile, flood watches and flash flood warnings were issued Sunday morning for parts of New Jersey, Connecticut, and the Hudson Valley due to torrential rain, with an AccuWeather Alert for localized flooding remaining in effect through the first half of the day.
