Ukraine Strikes Two Russian Gas Plants in Record-Long Drone Raid

Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces (SSO) conducted a long-range drone strike on two major Russian gas-condensate plants—Novy Urengoy and Purovsky—in the Yamalo-Nenets region on September 9, 2026.

The drones traveled over 3,200 kilometers (1,988 miles) from Ukrainian territory, setting a new record for strike depth.

The Novy Urengoy condensate preparation plant, which has a design capacity of 19.5 million tons per year, was one of the targets.

The Purovsky gas-condensate processing plant, which processed 13.4 million tons of condensate in 2025, was also hit in the operation.

No deaths or injuries were reported following the strikes, though the extent of the damage remains under investigation.

The SSO described the operation as a ‘record defeat’ and framed it as part of broader long-range sanctions against Russia’s war economy.
